Alfred's comic book debut in 1943. Bruce Wayne was reluctant to have a Butler at first. The early Alfred was much chubbier and wore no mustache.
In The Batman's first film appearance in the 1943 serial BATMAN, Alfred was to have his best screen portrayal by William Austin. Here is is with Lewis Wilson's Bruce Wayne.
After the 1943 serial in which William Austin, who played Alfred, was skinnier and had a mustache, the comic Alfred was re-drawn. Here he is in a November 1943 Sunday newspaper comic strip. Bob Kane even took some of the actor's mannerisms and adapted them to his comic butler.
In the 1949 15 chapter movie serial actor Eric Walton played Alfred.
Alfred was also an Amateur writer, as seen here in the April 1960 issue of BATMAN.

Efrem Zimbalist, Jr. provided the voice of Batman's irreplacable Butler on BATMAN THE ANIMATED SERIES on all but the first few episodes. Initially Clive Revill did the honors in ON LEATHER WINGS, NOTHING TO FEAR and CHRISTMAS WITH THE JOKER.
In the third Batman feature BATMAN FOREVER, Michael Gough returned as Alfred. Here he is with Val Kilmer's Bruce Wayne.
