Commissioner James Gordon's daughter was Barbara Gordon. Little did here father suspect that she was the new crimefighter Batgirl. This is how Barbara, sometimes called Babs, appeared in her comic debut in 1967. Her occupation here was a Librarian.
When it came time to shoot the third season of the popular Batman TV series, the producers wanted to spice things up a bit. What better way than to introduce the new comics sensation Batgirl to the small screen. Batgirl and Barbara were played by Yvonne Craig. She debuted on the series in the third season opener "Enter Batgirl, Exit Penguin", Episode 95, which aired September 14, 1967.
For the 1969 TV cartoon produced by Filmation, THE ADVENTURES OF BATMAN, "Babs" appeared in most of the episodes, still working in the Gotham Library, and still, unbeknownest to her father, fighting crime as Batgirl. In this series, it seems that Batman and Robin actually know her secret. Her voice was provided by Jane Webb.

For the 90's animated TV series, BATMAN THE ANIMATED SERIES (aka THE BATMAN ADVENTURES), Barbara debuted on I AM THE NIGHT on November 9, 1992. Still Comissioner Gordon's daughter, but now closer to Dick Grayson's age. The two even attend college together and romance begins to blossom. Her voice from 1992-1994 was provided by former "Little House on the Prairie" half-pint Melissa Gilbert. When her role became more prominent on the series in 1998, her vocals were taken over by Tara Charendoff.
In Batman's fourth big screen effort BATMAN AND ROBIN, Batgirl was introduced to George Clooney's Batman. This time though, not as Commissioner Gordon's daughter, but the daughter of an old sweetheart of Alfred's. Her name: Barbara Wilson. She was played by Alicia Silverstone.
On the 2002 WB TV series BIRDS OF PREY, Barbara Gordon was played by gorgeous Dina Meyer. This is the story of a crippled Barbara excelling as The Oracle.
