Green Arrow only ever made one appearance during the entire run of the TV series THE SUPERFRIENDS. During the first, 1973, season in the episode GULLIVER'S GIGANTIC GOOF, the Superfriends are shrunk the only a few inches in height. Green Arrow helps restore things to normal. He was voiced, in this one and only appearance, by Norman Alden.

Another hero to make only one appearance as a Super Friend was also during the First season in 1973. This was Plastic Man, also voiced by Norman Alden. In the 3rd episode PROFESSOR GOODFELLOW'S G.E.E.C., the heroes call on Plastic Man to capture a mouse deep in a room size computer which is causing the malfunction. Since the computer can't be harmed it's up to Plastic Man to twist through a small passage way with his arm, while Superman's guides him with his X-Ray vision. Superman calls him "P.M."

One of the core members of The Superfriends who appeared in practically every episode was The King of The Seven Seas, Aquaman. He was voiced by Norman Alden.

Green Lantern wasn't an original member when the show debuted in 1973, but when new shows came out in 1978's CHALLENGE OF THE SUPERFRIENDS he was a permanent fixture from then on out. Hal Jordan was chosen to be the keeper of the green power ring and must recharge it every 24 hours using the Green Lantern. He was voiced by Michael Rye.

Lex Luthor informs The Super Friends that The Legion Of Doom will be back another day to defeat them.

A favorite short from 1981 of mine was entitled THE EVIL FROM KRYPTON. In it a Phantom Zone villain named Zi-Kree, who remarkably resembles General Zod in the SUPERMAN films, escapes and aims to rule the world. Superman confronts Zi-Kree in his Fortress of Solitude, and with the help of Green Lantern and Aquaman defeats the criminal. Aired on TV to coincide with the theatrical release of SUPERMAN II.

Another two heroes that lasted throughout the entire run of the series were Batman and Robin, voiced by Olan Soule and Casey Kasem. In 1985, Adam West took over the voicing duties for Batman. Okay, once and for all...how did Robin's mask stay on?

Ray Palmer is the Atom, able to shrink to any size down to the smallest molecule.

I always preferred the First season of SUPERFRIENDS. I thought the weakness of the show as time went on was the invention of new super heroes in order to fulfill ethnic diversity. Not that I have anything against showing different cultures on the team, but the newly developed heroes were weak to say the least. Heroes such as Rima The Jungle Girl, Samurai, Apache Chief and Black Vulcan ended up bringing nothing unique to the team. Black Vulcan came aboard in 1976, voiced by Buster Jones. In later years, Cyborg was more of a worthy member.

From the Planet Thanagar, Katar Hol (on Earth his alias is Carter Hall), is actually Hawkman. He joined the Superfriends in 1976. He was voiced by Jack Angel.

The wife of Hawkman is Hawkgirl, with equal stength and intelligence as her husband and striking beauty. Her name on Earth is Sheira Hall.

During the first season in 1973, three characters were introduced so children could more closely indentify with the characters on the show. They were Wendy, Marvin and their pet Wonder Dog. Wonder Dog was the greatest TV cartoon canine to come along since Dino and Astro. Pity these three only lasted through the first season, before being replaced by the annoying Wonder Twins. Gee, kids can really relate to two kids from another planet that actually can turn into animals or water! At least Wendy and Marvin were just normal kids who wanted to be "super", just like every other child. Wendy was voiced by Sherry Alberoni, and Frank Welker did the honors for both Marvin and Wonder Dog.

On both 1978 TV specials, LEGENDS OF THE SUPERHEROES: THE CHALLENGE and LEGENDS OF THE SUPERHEROES: THE ROAST, hottie Black Canary was featured, played by Danuta.

The Black Canary made her first appearance on Smallville in the Season 7 episode "Siren" on February 7, 2008, played by Alaina Huffman.

On both 1978 TV specials, LEGENDS OF THE SUPERHEROES: THE CHALLENGE and LEGENDS OF THE SUPERHEROES: THE ROAST, the Green Lantern was featured, played by Howard Murphy.

In the unaired lost JUSTICE LEAGURE OF AMERICA pilot film (produced sometime in the 90's), one of the members was Guy Gardener's Green Lantern (played by Ken Jonston). Other members included The Martian Manhunter (played by David Ogden Stiers), The Atom and The Flash.

Fire (dressed in green)(played by Michelle Hurd), a woman whose powers were derived from heat, and Ice (dressed in blue) (played by Kimberly Oja), you guessed it, whose powers were cold driven. Both of these newly invented characters were welcome additions to the Super Hero Club. Other members included The Martian Manhunter, Green Lantern, The Atom and The Flash.

November 2001 brought about on the Cartoon Network, from the creators of the BATMAN ANIMATED SERIES, THE JUSTICE LEAGUE. Featuring George Newbern as Superman (Tim Daly being busy filming his show THE FUGITIVE), Kevin Conroy returning as The Batman, Phil LaMarr as Green Lantern and Michael Rosenbaum as The Flash.

An interesting choice for this new JUSTICE LEAGUE was Hawkgirl. From the Planet Thanager, her name is Shayera Hol.

Linda Carter played Wonder Woman on TV from 1975 thru 1979.

Who didn't have a crush on Wonder Woman when they were a kid? Whether it was Lynda Carter, or on the SuperFriends Saturday morning cartoon. The newer Justice League Wonder Woman is even more alluring. And she can even fly now. Her voice is provided by Susan Eisenberg.

A wonderful Wonder Woman portrayal, in my opinion, is within the confines of Director, Writer, Producer and Star John Fiorella's film GRAYSON. Director and creator Fiorella has done the impossible... made the perfect screen incarnation of our DC heroes. Wonder Woman is played by Kate Clarke.
