The year 2000's Lettermen Convention was held in Sparks, Nevada from Septemebr 24-27. It started off like the previous 18 Fan Conventions with the Opening Wine and Cheese Reception on Sunday the 24th. At the reception Donovan played a tape of one of the original Lettermen Bob Engemann. Bob apologized for not being able to attend the festivities, but he was just recovering from a recent bout of pneumonia. Donovan then began a video tape of old 60's television appearnces featuring the Lettermen, when the trio consisted of Tony, Jim Pike and Gary Pike. About 14 minutes into the video, Donovan stopped it and asked everyone to turn around. Jaws dropped as Jim Pike, his wife Sue, Gary and his wife Sharon entered the room. Even Tony was unaware of this well-kept secret and a wonderful reunion took place.
Monday's activities included Bowling with The Lettermen, which of course included Jim and Gary and their lovely wives. And on Tuesday the 26th, Fans enjoyed the Awards Party, where certificates were given for the Best Fan Photos. A surprise private concert only for the Fan Society members was also a memory to be treasured always by those who attended.
Wednesday the 27th, everyone said their good-byes at the closing breakfast with the guys.
Thanks to Sharon Pike, Liz Ballard, Tom Shaffer for information and photos from the convention.
