August 19, 1899 - December 7, 1959

Charlie Hall is probably the most familiar face in Laurel & Hardy films, besides Stan and Ollie themselves. He appeared in 47 films with Laurel & Hardy, more than any other supporting player. Most often he brought a sneer and evil squint to his roles (Stan & Ollie seemed to bring that out of people). His most familiar role and probably his best, was in THEM THAR HILLS (1934) and it's sequel the following year TIT FOR TAT, where Charlie played Mr. Hall, owner of a Grocery store, who battled back and forth with the Boys in the popular "tit for tat" format.

In addition to his many films with Stan and Babe, Mr. Hall also appeared in dozens of other films, including DRESSED TO KILL, THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME, THE GAY DIVORCEE with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, and A QUIET FOURTH, an Edgar Kennedy comedy from 1941.

Charlie Hall, with The Boys, in BUSY BODIES (1933): You've got a kind face.

Stan befriends Charlie Hall in the 1933 film BUSY BODIES by giving him a cigar, only to turn him into the foreman reminding him that No Smoking is allowed.
