The video cassette cover, released by Warner Brothers in 1987, of the very first Superman theatrical film from 1951 SUPERMAN AND THE MOLE MEN. The film, which co-starred Phyllis Coates, later was worked in the end of the first season of THE ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN as the two-part episode THE UNKNOWN PEOPLE.
Okay, so Phyllis Coates only played Lois in the original 1951 film and during the first season of THE ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN in 1953. But during that short time, she defined what Lois Lane should be. Tough and domineering. Not always helpless. Very opinionated. Not to mention beautiful and striking. She retired after only one season. Pity.
Released theatrically in 1954, SUPERMAN AND SCOTLAND YARD is simply the compilation of three second season episodes from the TV series: Episode 34, A GHOST FOR SCOTLAND YARD (Directed by George Blair), Episode 38, PANIC IN THE SKY and Episode 49, LADY IN BLACK (both directed by Thomas Carr).
Relased also in theaters in 1954, SUPERMAN IN EXILE is another film compiled of three episodes from THE ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN TV series: SUPERMAN IN EXILE (Episode 33, Director: Thomas Carr), THE FACE AND THE VOICE (Episode 36, Director: George Blair) and THE WHISTLING BIRD (episode 51, Director: Thomas Carr). The final episode featured the future voice of Winnie The Pooh, Sterling Holloway.
Striking covers on the 1996 release, by Warner Brothers, of these video cassettes, each one featuring two classic episodes from the TV series THE ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN and one early Fleischer Cartoon. This is Volume 2, of a 4 volume set, which features CRIME WAVE (1953), THE PERILS OF SUPERMAN (1957) and the 1941 cartoon THE MECHANICAL MONSTERS.

Fights a never-ending battle for Truth, Justice and The American Way... George Reeves
A typical set at the end of the day, after shooting an episode of THE ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN, must have included a smashed wall or two.
Circa 1956. Was this the entire staff of Metropolis' biggest newspaper??? John Hamilton as Perry White, George Reeves as Superman, Jack Larson as Jimmy and Noel Neill as Lois Lane.
Disposing of bombs, all in a day's work for the Man Of Steel.
Early publicity shot of George Reeves shows a series side. Probably around 1951 when SUPERMAN AND THE MOLE MEN was filmed. Note the costume's sewn in muscles, more evident in this early film.
George Reeves grew to love his role and his positive influence on the children of America.
A favorite episode has always been this Second Season effort from 1953 called THE FACE AND THE VOICE. In it, George Reeves also plays a thug who has plastic surgery to resemble Superman, and then engages on a crime spree. His New York accent as the baddie Superman is priceless. Here, the imposter, prepares to rob a Jewelry Store.
Noel Neill's Lois was pretty much helpless and spent most of her time being tied or locked up. She did, however, play here scenes strong when it came to romancing Superman.
Another intesresting episode from the Fourth Season was 1955's THE UNLUCKY NUMBER. A wanna-be gangster rents a room from an impressionable young lad and his grandmother. The boy thinks the border is Superman! So upon meeting the real Man Of Steel, he insists on seeing some "super feats", such as the bending of a barbell.
A classic shot of Noel Neill and George Reeves from late in the series.
Once again, my favorite Lois Lane, Ms. Phyllis Coates. Here with George Reeves on the set of SUPERMAN AND THE MOLE MEN (1951).
A favorite shot of what's on the "other" side of the window, after George hits the springboard built into the floor for take-off in almost every episode of THE ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN.
An excellent pre-Superman film role for Reeves in 1943's SO PROUDLY WE HAIL.
A compelling book about George Reeves' mysterious death in 1959, by Sam Kashner and Nancy Schoenberger entitled HOLLYWOOD KRYPTONITE. Highly recommended.
In the fifties, George Reeves and Superman made the cover of TV Guide.
